Yellow and white are the college colours and the red is for members of the College who fell during the Civil War. Tartan to be used by the Pipes & Drums of the Institute. Different warp and weft. Full name is Virginia Military Institute, New Market. The Battle of New Market was an American Civil War engagement in which the cadets from the Military College played a major part in winning.
