Princess Mary (Royal)
  • Notes: It was popular in the 1920s to name fashion tartans after members of the Royal Family of the day and one explanation says that the Princess Mary comes into this category. Originally described in 1930 as the Green Stuart, it - and colour variations - has been marketed since that date as the Princess Mary. #0735 from West Coast Woolen Mills of Vancouver is a corrupted version of this. An alternative note from Hary Lindley says" In the early 1930s a few of the Royal Family wished to wear a tartan other than the Royal, Dress or Hunting Stewart. This tartan was designed and became known as Princess Mary Tartan. The same applies to Princess Beatrice."
