The colours in the new tartan are dark blue which represents lakes Ontario and Erie; light blue for the Niagara River and the Welland Canal; white is the mist rising from the Falls; green symbolizes Niagara's fertile agriculture and parks; and red is significant of the rich military history of the Niagara Region.
